Safe & Together Institute’s mission is to create a global network of domestic violence-informed professionals, agencies and communities. In order to encourage and celebrate the hard work that so many are doing around the globe to implement and promote the Safe & Together Model, we have created the Champions Award.

The Safe & Together Champions Awards are given to individuals who have demonstrated excellence in the application of the Safe & Together Model tools and practice to their individual case practice, and to individuals who have demonstrated excellence in the implementation of the Safe & Together Model to move their organization and system toward more domestic violence-informed policy and practices. The two categories are:

  1. Champion Award for Excellence in Systems Change
  2. Champion Award for Excellence in Case Practice

Eligibility requirements for the awards

Excellence in Case Practice Award
This award is designed for professionals who have been trained in the Safe & Together Model and who have gone the extra step in applying the Model principles and tools to their day-to-day practice. This can include, but is not limited to, those who have shown excellence and commitment to consistently:

  • Applying the Model’s principles and components to domestic violence cases;
  • Partnering with domestic violence survivors; oEngage and intervene with perpetrators as parents;
  • Identifying and address intersecting domestic violence, mental health and substance abuse issues;
  • Applying the Model concepts to communities who experience systemic racism, bias, and intergenerationaltrauma, or other forms of systemic oppression such as: the African American community, immigrants and refugees, aboriginal/indigenous/First Nation communities and the LGBTQI community.

Excellence in Systems Change Award
This award is designed for professionals who have been trained in the Safe & Together Model and who have gone the extra step in applying the Model concepts and tools to organizational and systems change. This can include, but is not limited to, those who have shown excellence and commitment to:

  • Working above and beyond their formal role to promote domestic violence-informed systems change;
  • Acting as change agents inside their agency for wider shifts in practice and/or policy;
  • Making efforts to implement the Model across sectors or agencies;
  • Working to improve the organization’s or system’s approach to and application of the Model to working with families who experience systemic racism, bias, andintergenerational trauma, or other forms of systemic oppression such as: the African American community, immigrants and refugees, aboriginal/indigenous/First Nation communities and the LGBTQI community.

NOMINATIONS
Award candidates must be nominated by 1 person and a second person must validate the nomination. Nominations will be reviewed by a team of staff at Safe & Together Institute and awards will be granted based on the following criteria:

  • Fidelity to the Model
  • Creativity in application of the Model
  • Specificity of the description of their efforts in the nomination

The presentation of supporting evidence or documentation of the effects of their efforts and the connection back to S&TI (when applicable). Nominations will be submitted using the nomination form included at the end of this document. Nomination forms along with validations (letters of support, signed validation form, etc] and any supporting documents should be sent to: info@safeandtogetherinstitute.com

Important: Nominations for the case practice category must respect the anonymity of clients. The description of any case details cannot include any identifying information. This includes names, locations, or any other case details that would make the case identifiable.

THE WINNERS
There will be a winner for each category in each region.

1ST PLACE IN EACH CATEGORY will:
Receive a full expense paid trip to their current regional* S&TI conference;
Be announced and will receive the award at the current regional* S&TI conference;
Be offered the opportunity to present their efforts and work during a workshop slot if they desire;
Have an opportunity for their work and their efforts to behighlighted in our quarterly global Safe & Together News.

2ND PLACE IN EACH CATEGORY will:
Receive free registration to their current regional* S&TI conference;
Be announced and will receive the award at the current regional* S&TI conference;
Have an opportunity for their work and their efforts to behighlighted in our quarterly global Safe & Together News.

3RD PLACE IN EACH CATEGORY will:
Be announced and will receive the award at the current regional* S&TI conference (if they attend);
Have an opportunity for their work and their efforts to behighlighted in our quarterly global Safe & Together News.

*First and second place winners who are unable to attend the current regional conference will be announced as a winner at the conference
