Tamika Thurston

Tamika Thurston worked as a Domestic Violence Consultant for child welfare for four years. In this role, Tamika provided expert case specific consultation and training, using the Safe & Together™ Model on an array of domestic violence issues that included initial screening, safety strategies for helping adult and child victims of domestic violence, intervening with perpetrators and collaborating with community providers. Tamika is a National/International Trainer with David Mandel & Associates, providing training to various child welfare agencies and their partners. She also facilitates batterers groups.

Tamika has previously provided counseling and support to mothers and child victims of domestic violence. She was also a Family Violence Victim Advocate for a Women’s Refuge, where Tamika worked extensively with criminal and family courts, providing advocacy and helped shape these systems respond to domestic violence, including judges, prosecutors, GALs, probation officers and family court workers. She worked extensively to help build legislation around immigration and undocumented victims of domestic violence.
