FREE Webinar! Strength through Adversity: Identifying and validating survivors’ parenting strengths during social distancing.

July 14 @ 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM AWST

In this webinar, we draw on case examples gathered from workers during the pandemic to identify and validate the parenting strengths of domestic violence survivors during social distancing.

Instructors: Kyle Pinto, Assistant Director of the Safe & Together Institute

Date: July 14, 2020

Time: 9:00am Perth / 11:00am Melbourne

Length:  60 minutes

Cost:   FREE

Description: While social distancing measures are in place, society is placing huge additional burdens on families to keep children physically and emotionally well, safe, sane, clean, educated and entertained. These tasks are disproportionately placed on mothers and are even more challenging to accomplish in the context of changing perpetrator behaviour patterns. It is critical that we identify and validate how hard survivors are adapting during this crisis in order to keep their children safe and that we learn how to support them in their efforts. At a time when agency contact with children has been severely reduced, survivors may be our only allies in relation to child safety.

In this webinar, we draw on case examples gathered from workers during the pandemic to identify and validate the parenting strengths of domestic violence survivors during social distancing.

Viewers will:

  •  Consider how gender double standards of parenting may impact differently on our expectations of mothers and fathers during the crisis.
  • Learn how to apply a perpetrator pattern-based approach to identify survivors parenting strengths.
  •  Consider how survivor’s protective efforts and safety plans may have changed or adapted to the current situation.
  • Outline how we can communicate and document identified strengths to survivors and other agencies involved with the family.
