6-7 June 2019 is the 1st Safe & Together™ Model European Conference!

The Safe & Together Institute is excited to announce its 1st Safe & Together™ Model European Conference. Used by practitioners, agencies and communities across the globe, the Safe & Together Model has been adopted in the United Kingdom by a variety of local authorities, the Ministry of Defence and non-governmental agencies. We are also happy to share that this inaugural conference coincides with the launch of the first group of Safe & Together Model Certified Trainers in the United Kingdom.

Plenary sessions by David Mandel:

An Introduction to the Safe & Together Model: This session  will focus on an overview of the Model. The session will highlight the cross-sector nature of the Model, how it supports a gender-based approach to domestic abuse and children, and its application in the UK and globally.

Intersections: Working with families where domestic abuse, mental health and substance abuse meet: This session will focus on how to address complexity in domestic abuse cases. It will look at how to apply a perpetrator pattern-based approach to  help identify the role of perpetrators in other family members’ substance abuse and mental health issues, and to improve partnering with survivors who have multiple issues. The session will consider how a trauma-informed approach can help and also hinder domestic violence-informed practice.

Perpetrators as Parents: This session will focus on how low standards for men as parents can hinder intervening effectively with families impacted by domestic abuse perpetrators’ behaviors.  The session will highlight how being “father-inclusive” across a wide variety of cases is critical to improved domestic violence-informed practice particularly as it relates to partnering with survivors. It will also consider how critical a gendered analysis is to moving away from a “failure to protect” approach in domestic abuse cases with children.

Knowledge to Action: Using Safe & Together to Change Individual Practice and Systems: In this session, David will discuss how the Safe & Together Model is designed to shift practice and policy at multiple levels. This session will also include individual action planning and discussions related to the conference learnings.
