Voices from the Frontline: Qualitative Perspectives of the Workforce on Transforming Responses to Domestic, Family & Sexual Violence

This qualitative research report details findings from the ANROWS research project 4AP.8 “Transforming responses to intimate partner and sexual violence: Listening to the voices of victims, perpetrators and services,”  which captured insights from professionals across child protection, domestic violence, mental health, and allied services on current practices and systemic challenges.

Key findings include:

  • Widespread workforce concerns about competing priorities, burnout, and inadequate training

  • Strong support for integrated approaches that break down service silos

  • Calls for survivor-centered practices that emphasize perpetrator accountability over “failure-to-protect” frameworks

  • Recognition of models like the Safe & Together Model as effective bridges for system transformation

The report amplifies practitioner voices calling for collaboration across sectors, ongoing professional development, policy reform, and meaningful integration of survivor lived experiences into practice and policy development.
