Multi-Agency Triage Project: Implementing Stage 3 of the Multi-Agency Triage Model

This final report details a collaborative project aimed at improving responses to family violence incidents reported to police, with special focus on creating better outcomes for children affected by domestic and family violence. The Multi-Agency Triage Project involved a collaborative effort from representatives of different services (including child protection, family violence services, family services, and Aboriginal services) who worked together to assess risk and determine appropriate referral pathways for families experiencing violence.

Key achievements of the project include:

  1. Development of a single-door approach for processing police family violence reports

  2. Creation of a differential response that reduced unnecessary child protection referrals

  3. Implementation of a “safety net” to identify children at risk who weren't named in police reports

  4. Application of the Safe & Together Model to keep focus on perpetrator accountability

  5. Establishment of effective operational and strategic collaboration between agencies
